A NASCAR weekend in Talladega is about more than the action at Talladega Superspeedway. The town of Talladega and the surrounding area offer plenty to see and do before and after race day.
Start in downtown Talladega, where a traditional Southern courthouse square, small local shops, and family-run restaurants create a relaxed, welcoming feel. Historic buildings and a slower pace give the town plenty of character away from the track.
Motorsport fans shouldn’t miss the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, located right next to the Superspeedway. The museum features famous race cars, trophies, and memorabilia from NASCAR and other racing series. In town, the Hall of Heroes Museum adds local cultural and military history.
If you enjoy the outdoors, Cheaha State Park is a short drive away. Home to Alabama’s highest point, it offers hiking trails, waterfalls, scenic views, and camping in the foothills of the Appalachians. The nearby Talladega National Forest is another great option, with picnic areas, trails, and quiet nature spots.
Families and racing fans can also check out the Talladega Short Track for dirt-track racing, or spend time around local lakes and rivers that are popular for fishing and boating.
Food is part of the Talladega experience, too. The area is known for Southern comfort dishes, classic barbecue, and casual diners — perfect for a filling meal after a long day at the track.
