Traveling by car

Most spectators arrive by car, and Talladega Superspeedway is set up to handle the large volumes of traffic that come with race weekends. A mix of free and paid parking is available, with law enforcement and parking crews positioned around the venue to keep traffic moving and guide vehicles into the correct areas.

Directions

  • From I-20 (Birmingham direction): Take Exit 168 and continue east on Speedway Boulevard toward the Superspeedway. Event signage and staff will direct you into the appropriate parking lots.
  • From I-20 (Atlanta direction): Exit at 173 and travel south on Speedway Industrial Drive. Depending on traffic levels, officials may adjust routing — follow posted signs and staff instructions for the fastest access.
  • From Highway 77 (north or south): Follow event signage for Talladega Superspeedway. Be prepared for temporary lane changes and altered traffic flows during major race weekends.

Approximate drive times

  • Birmingham, AL (city centre): about 50 minutes / 55 miles via I-20 East
  • Atlanta, GA: roughly 1 hour 40 minutes / 110 miles via I-20 West
  • Montgomery, AL: around 1 hour 30 minutes / 90 miles via US-231 North and I-20
  • Huntsville, AL: approximately 2 hours 15 minutes / 110 miles via I-65 South and US-231
  • Chattanooga, TN: just under 2.5 hours / 130 miles via I-59 South
  • Nashville, TN: about 3 hours 50 minutes / 240 miles via I-65 South and I-20 East

Helpful race-day travel tips

  • Allow extra time: Congestion increases quickly on race mornings, particularly near I-20 exits and Speedway Boulevard.
  • Follow instructions: Parking teams direct vehicles into available lots in sequence — use all open lanes to keep traffic flowing.
  • Expect rerouting: As lots reach capacity, access points close and traffic is diverted to the next open area.
  • Prioritise safety: Do not stop, park, or walk along highways leading to the Superspeedway. Crossing live traffic lanes causes delays and serious safety risks.
  • Avoid retail parking: Shopping centres in nearby towns such as Lincoln and Oxford enforce towing during race weekends, and pedestrian crossings are restricted until traffic clears.
